Michelin Guide to Switzerland 2019: the New Stars

The Michelin Guide to Switzerland 2019 has been released and includes 23 more restaurants than last year, including two new, two-star restaurants.

Focus in Vitznau with head chef Patrick Mahler and Pavillon in Zurich under the leadership of Laurent Eperon both join the two star club, taking the total number of addresses listed in the category up to 20.

There are 21 new one star restaurants, incuding one surprise addition, l’Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, the Swiss hotel school in Lausanne, taking the category total up to 105.

Cheval Blanc (Basel) by Peter Knogl, Andreas Caminada at Schloss–Schauenstein (Fürstenau) and Franck Giovannini Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville (Crissier) remain the only 3 Michelin star restaurants in the country.

Switzerland now has a new record total of 128 starred restaurants. “The number impressively documents the high level of Swiss gastronomy,” explained the international Michelin Guide director Gwendal Poullennec during the awards ceremony today. “Our inspectors are always impressed by the impressive breadth of top Swiss gastronomy, from kitchen styles ranging from Mediterranean to Asian, from classic to modern.”
