Looking for smooth, glowing skin? Just mash up a DIY banana face mask.
Bananas are a kitchen staple for most of us. They make the perfect on-the-go snack and can easily be tossed into healthy smoothies or used to make amazing baked goods. But did you know that bananas have beauty benefits, too? A banana face mask is full of antioxidants and vitamins, helping to reduce puffiness and redness.
To create an in-home spa treatment, all you need to do is mash up a ripe banana!
Are Bananas Good for Your Skin?
Yes! Bananas contain vitamins and minerals that naturally give you softer and brighter skin. They are high in vitamin C, potassium, manganese and biotin. These vitamins soften your skin and protect its natural elasticity. Bananas also contain natural oils to moisturize and soothe dry skin.
Because they’re high in antioxidants, bananas can protect your skin against free radical damage and reduce the look of wrinkles.
How Do You Make a Banana Face Mask?
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 1/2 tablespoon organic coconut oil
Don’t love to DIY? If you’re short on time (or bananas), try this ready-made banana mask to get the same beauty benefits.
Step 1: Mix
In a small bowl, mash the banana with the lemon juice and coconut oil. It should form a paste-like consistency. If the paste looks too thick to smear on your face, then add a teaspoon of warm water.
Step 2: Apply to face
Before applying your banana face mask, wash and dry your face to make sure your skin can absorb all the healthy nutrients. You may want to use an exfoliating scrub as well to remove any dead skin cells.
Apply the mask using your fingers. Wash your hands—or if they could use some love, allow the banana mask to sit on your hands as well.
Step 3: Rest
Allow the mask to sit on your face for about 10 to 15 minutes. While you wait, sip on a peanut butter banana smoothie and dream about softer, smoother skin.
Step 4: Rinse
Once the mask has dried completely, rinse it off with cold water. Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel. This mask can be used up to once per week. You can also use bananas to make a DIY hair mask!
